Larimer Square
Denver, Colorado

Back to List

This new music hall building was designed to occupy the last piece of open ground in Denver's historic Larimer Square, one of the nation's premier Landmark Districts. The four-story building was to be one of the newest venues for House of Blues, a national entertainment company specializing in headline music acts. The program included a restaurant, a two-story music nightclub, two kitchens, a retail store, offices and support spaces.

The architectural challenge was to knit a new building with a unique use into an established and familiar context. The solution was a brick and stone building that respected the scale and massing of its neighbors without resorting to mimicry. The brick "bookends" of the façade were infilled with a curtain wall of translucent glass, illuminated from behind, in response to the programmatic requirement for visual separation from the street.
